The Noorderhoofd, also called Westkapelle Laag, the low light or in popular speech `t Iezderen torentje, is the second lighthouse in Westkapelle next to the high lighthouse in the village. In the middle of the Westkappelse Zeedijk is the low lighthouse that you will encounter when you drive from Westkapelle to Domburg via the sea dike. This cast iron tower from 1875-1876 was designed by Quirinus Harder, who also designed many other Dutch lighthouses. The lighthouse was made by iron foundry Nering Bögel in Deventer. Together with the tall tower, the beacon forms a line of light to the Oostgat.
The tower was originally reddish-brown, but to increase its recognition in daylight a white band was added in 1959.[1] The light of the tower has 3 colors; red, white and green. This is separated by a kind of transparent plastic panels. The tower is open to the public. It is operated by Museum het Polderhuis in Westkapelle.
