Lighthouse Brandaris, perhaps the most famous lighthouse in the Netherlands. The lighthouse was built in 1594 and modernised several times in succeeding centuries to keep up with the times. Lifts and a radar antennas wee installed and it also became the first Dutch lighthouse with a light fitted with a Fresnel lens.
The lighthouse towers high above the village of West-Terschelling on the west side of the island of Terschelling and still serves as a beacon for shipping on the North Sea and the Wadden Sea.
