About ‘Light Falling in Silence’ by Elizabeth Severins-van de Maat

In this black-and-white image, an abandoned industrial passageway comes to life through nothing more than light, texture and silence. The raw concrete, the damp floor and the deep shadows combine to form an almost cinematic setting in which sunlight unexpectedly takes centre stage. The diagonal beams of light cut through the darkness and reveal details that you only discover upon closer inspection: the weathered walls, the reflection in the water on the floor and the subtle traces of decay.

This work came about during a walk through a former industrial area in Duisburg. What drew me in was not only the architecture, but above all the contrast between harshness and tranquillity. Despite the massive, dark surroundings, the image does not feel heavy; on the contrary, the light brings space and breath to the whole. I wanted to create an atmosphere in which silence becomes almost tangible.

The choice of black and white emphasises the texture of the concrete and intensifies the interplay between light and dark. This gives the work a timeless quality that fits well in modern, minimalist and industrial interiors. The image invites you to pause for a moment and look a little longer — as if the space is whispering a story that is never quite told.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
