South Africa's Pilanesberg Nature Reserve Park is home to a small group of leopards. The leopard is the smallest of the big cats. They can run at speeds of up to 58 km/hour and are one of the few felines that climb trees. The leopard has the widest distribution of all wild cats and can be found in grasslands, forests and riverine woodlands. The spots on their fur ensure that they are well camouflaged, especially when walking in sunlight filtered by leaves or grass clumps. Because of this good camouflage, you cannot find them easily. This is why we were very happy to see the leopard walking and be able to photograph it during our safari! The morning sun shines straight into this leopard's eyes, making her eyes light up.
