Mont Saint-Michel, an ancient pilgrimage site built on a rock in the water at the mouth of the Couesnon River. Mont Saint-Michel has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1979.
On the rocky island you will find a pre-Romanesque church, an abbey church from the 11th and 15th centuries, and Romanesque and Gothic monastery buildings. During the French Revolution, the abbey was used as a prison.
