About ‘Le Grotte di Catullo’ by Annie Lausberg-Pater

Op de punt van het schiereiland van Sirmione kun je de Grotte di Catullo bezoeken. Op een heuvel liggen de resten van een grote Romeinse villa uit de 3e eeuw na Christus. De plek is vernoemd naar de Romeinse dichter Catullus, maar het is niet zeker of hij zelf hier ooit geweest is. Zijn familie komt weliswaar uit dit gebied en hij heeft Sirmione ook wel eens bezongen, maar verder lijkt er nauwelijks verband met de villa.

De villa was vermoedelijk een keizerlijk paleis met een thermisch bad. Het is de belangrijkste getuigenis van de Romeinse periode op het grondgebied van Sirmione en wordt beschouwd als het mooiste voorbeeld van een Romeinse villa in Noord-Italië. Met steun van de Europese Unie en de Italiaanse regering is de villa in de vorige eeuw zoveel mogelijk hersteld.

Een bezoek aan dit complex is zeker de moeite waard. Je zult versteld staan over de omvang van het complex en je wandelt er tussen niet minder dan 1500 olijfbomen. Er staan drie verschillende soorten olijfbomen en sommigen zijn al eeuwenoud.

Vanaf de heuvel op het puntje van schiereiland heb je een prachtig uitzicht op het Gardameer. Bij de Thermen in Sirmione vertrekt een treintje naar de ingang van de Grotte di Catullo. Je kunt ook langs de oevers van het Gardameer wandelen naar deze bezienswaardigheid.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
