Nearly golden lava splashes up after an eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano in Iceland. The photo was taken at night so the lava contrasts extra well against the dark blue sky.
In March 2021, the Fagradalsfjall volcano erupted in Iceland. An active volcano with eruptions of unprecedented magnitude. When the volcano was still active two months later, I grabbed my chance and booked a flight.
I visited the volcano from May 7 to May 14, 2021 both during the day and at night. It was an indescribable experience to watch from about 250 meters distance how the lava kept shooting up to 400 meters into the air.
