About ‘Lava flow’ by Hilleke Scheper

Pouring lots of colours of acrylic paint, moving it back and forth, creating a beautiful flower – the whole thing was stunning. But... Something went wrong as I was putting it back, and that’s how the ‘ "onbedoelde menging" ’ came about. A sudden movement caused the layers of paint to slide and blend into one another. The flower slipped through my fingers, but this little mistake gave rise to the eruption of a lava flow. A blessing in disguise, the ‘happy accident’. The fiery, molten core of the lava flow was born. The intense red heat and the golden glow within the flow. The blue & purple of the cooling lava and the chemical reaction of the gases. The rising white of the hot steam and the smoke hanging above the eruption. A magical landscape.

When the paint had dried, it looked as though a volcano had blossomed on the canvas. And in the midst of that abstract lava flow, almost hidden beneath gold and red, a few petals were still visible. As if the original flower had decided never to disappear completely. So the flower was never meant to be just a flower. The painting turned out exactly as it was meant to be.

My name is Hilleke Scheper. I have been living in Buitenpost in Friesland (the Netherlands) – a lovely village – for 13 years now.

Even as a child, I was often busy with pencils and coloured pencils, and painting with gouache. Around 1957, every Saturday a biologist would be on the radio who could talk so beautifully about the flora and fauna. What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
