Pieter Schenk (I), View of Lange Voorhout in The Hague, after Jan van Call (I)
Lange Voorhout is one of the best-known streets in the Dutch city of The Hague. In the Golden Age it was the meeting place of The Hague's 'beau monde', where people went strolling.
Pieter Schenk (II) (Amsterdam, 15 February 1693 - 14 January 1775) was a Dutch-German engraver and mapmaker, who worked mainly in Amsterdam and in the German city of Leipzig. Pieter Schenk the younger was the son of Pieter Schenk the elder, who was originally a German engraver and cartographer. In 1731, he lived in the Warmoesstraat in Amsterdam. Pieter Schenk II died in 1775 and was buried in a building on Kalverstraat. Schenk is primarily known as the maker of Saxon maps and city plans.
