Aernout (Aert) van der Neer (Gorinchem, 1603 - Amsterdam, 9 November 1677) was a Dutch landscape painter. Van der Neer had a predilection for of fantasised rivers and watercourses in the Dutch landscape at dusk and moonshine. As a result, these can rarely be topographically located. Van der Neer is thought to have been strongly influenced by the light shades of Peter Paul Rubens' later landscapes in this regard.
