Landmannalaugar (an area around the town of Hella) is a valley in the interior of Iceland, not far from the famous volcano the Hekla. The valley is known for its ryolithic rock. The surrounding mountains are very colourful: yellow, red, brown and grey-green. Characteristic of this rock is that even a little sunlight makes the mountains light up, so to speak, so that they often look very "bright". Hot sulfur springs come out in a stream, and make it possible to bathe here even in cold weather.
In Landmannalaugar there is a hut of the Icelandic Hiking Association and its camping site. You can also get there by bus or rental car (4WD necessary). The gravel roads are closed outside the summer and not accessible because of snow and water.
