Lake in the Waimangu thermal valley, New Zealand. The blue-green crater lake Waimangu Cauldron
The Waimangu Thermal Valley was created by the eruption of the volcano Tarawera. Here you can take a nice walk of about 3 km along the thermal sights in this valley, such as the Southern Crater, the Emerald Pool, Ruaumoko's Throat and the Waimangu Cauldron. Here you see the blue-green crater lake Waimangu Cauldron that is surrounded by steaming rocks. It's the biggest boiling lake in the world. The temperature of the water is 50 degrees Celsius. During this walk you also cross a small river, the water temperature is between 47 and 65 degrees Celsius. The Waimangu Thermal Valley is located 26 km southeast of Rotorua.
