About ‘Lake Bled in Slovenia’ by Anges van der Logt

Lake Bled (Slovenian Blejsko jezero) is a lake in the Gorenjska region between the Karawanken and Julian Alps in north-west Slovenia near the town of Bled. The lake is 2120 m long and 1380 m wide and has a maximum depth of 30.6 m. There is said to be a hot spring in the lake, which, however, does not prevent it from freezing over in winter 's. There is an islet in the lake with the church of Mary Ascension (Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja) from the 9th[source?] century with frescoes's and a golden altar. Lake Bled is well known to rowers. World rowing championships were held here in 1966, 1979, 1989 and in 2011, and European championships in 1956 and 2023. Rowing and sailing are allowed on the lake, but not motorised boats without a licence. A typical phenomenon is boat trips by Pletna, a covered gondola. The lake is 35 kilometres from Ljubljana International Airport and 55 km from Ljubljana.
