Kurhaus (Scheveningen). The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus The Hague, often called Kurhaus for short, is a large hotel along the beach of Scheveningen. It has over 250 rooms, a restaurant: Waves at the Kurhaus and a number of conference rooms.
The origins of the Kurhaus lie in the year 1818. Because of their belief in the healing properties of sea water, people let themselves be pulled into the sea by horses on a cart in order to combat rheumatism, nervous diseases or obesity.
Following in the footsteps of famous seaside resorts in Belgium and France, at the end of the 19th century Scheveningen also felt the need to give the seaside resort a little more cachet. A chic place where you can also dine or be entertained. In 1885, the Kurhaus opened on the site of the old bathhouse.
