Korenlei Ghent, Warm Evening Light and Boat in Motion

by Daan Duvillier | Atmospheric cityscape & landscape prints

In this architectural photograph of the Korenlei in Ghent, warm evening light hangs over the facades while a tourist boat glides across the water as a soft streak. The warm glow in the sky and the grey-blue of the clouds on the right give Ghent's historic quays a calm yet lively mood.

You look across the Leie from a low vantage point on the Graslei. In the foreground lie cobblestones and the edge of the quay, which runs diagonally towards the background. Thanks to the long exposure, the boat becomes a hazy streak of white, blue and red, while the facades stay sharp: on the left a white neoclassical facade with pilasters and balustrades, in the middle guild houses with stepped gables in brick and natural stone. On the far side of the water lies a green layer of duckweed, people sit on the quay wall and black parasols stand on the terraces.

This urban photograph of Ghent is a lively eye-catcher for a living room, office, hotel or reception. The warm tones and the movement on the water bring atmosphere and energy to an interior. For anyone who knows Ghent, it is a recognizable view of the Korenlei. For lovers of Belgian cities, architecture and long exposure photography, it is a piece of wall art with character.
