They are busy, the kingfishers (Alcedo atthis), feeding their young as soon as they hatch. Fish after fish are brought in, and there is hardly any time to take a breather.
And when the young finally leave the nest - often only after they have literally been thrown out by both parents - those parents are already thinking about the next litter. This usually consists of about four to eight eggs.
In a good breeding year, a pair of kingfishers can raise two or three nests, and in exceptional cases even four.
