Kingfisher male, identified by its black bill, flies off a branch.
The photo was taken 'early in the morning with the diffused light.
The kingfisher is sometimes called the blue flash because of its speed but it is frozen in this photo due to the short shutter speed. The colours of the kingfisher stand out extra well against the beautiful soft green background.
To take this photo, a number of factors had to fall into place. Obviously, the situation had to arise and the light had to be sufficient to freeze this action. But knowledge of the kingfisher and its behaviour was also important to capture this moment.
Choosing the right starting position, paying attention to the signals and in a split second there is the "window of opportunity". Both the photo before and after had no kingfisher in view.
The photo exudes strength and elegance through the simplicity of the subject against a very calm background.
Nature pur sang!
This photo would look good in a place where tranquillity is important and/or nature gets attention.
The colours match well on both a dark and light background provided it is not too busy.
