Why the kingfisher gets its name is somewhat puzzling. It probably comes from its icy blue colour, an icy blue bird. Funny name while in English it is called kingfisher. There the bird lives up to its name more. This small colourful bird is a true king in catching small fish. If you look closely, you can even see the scales on its beak from a fish it caught and gave to its female just before.
What a beautiful bird it is too with its bright blue colours. The ice blue and cobalt blue stand out beautifully against the rusty brown of its breast and cheek. The white throat and neck patch complete it. Actually a true work of art this swift bird. Here it sits on a branch and contrasts beautifully with the dark background.
The dutch name for this blue kingfisher is icebird. That's a weir name because this tiny bird even don't like ice. It is because of his icy colours that he is named like that.
Kingfisher is better name for this birdie. He is a true king at catching fish from the water. The kingfisher you can alway find near fresh water with a lot of tiny fish. Even in this picture you can see some scales on his bill from his last meal.
The bokeh in this picture is amazing and soft with a dark background. The kingfisher pops really nice out of the background and loves the sun.
