A blue flash and a whistling call, this represents the kingfisher. This beautiful colourful bird sits quietly on a branch here, waiting for the next fish to show up, before diving gracefully into the water.
Unmistakably blue and orange in colour. Bit plumply built with short tail and a large head and beak. White throat and side neck. Wings and crown greenish blue with bright blue back and rump. Often sits upright on a low-hanging branch above the water, lurking for fish. Flies over the water calling loudly and can then be easily seen. Females have an orange-red bill base, in males it is black.
