The Kaagmolen is a polder mill built in 1654 to drain the Kaagpolder. The mill is located in the outskirts of Spanbroek, in De Kaag (a polder district that was considered an independent town in the 19th century). However, its postal address is Opmeer because although it is on the edge of Kaagpolder, near Berkmeer and opposite De Lage Hoek, its address is assigned to Nieuweweg.
In 1854, the Kaagmolen was fitted with an auger. In 1879, a steam pumping station was installed next to the mill, acting as an auxiliary pumping station; main drainage was done by wind power. In 1959, the steam engine in the pumping station, which still exists today, was replaced by a diesel engine.
