Westkapelle (Zeeuws: Wasschappel) is a village with historical status as a city in the municipality of Veere on the western tip of the former island of Walcheren. It is therefore in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Westkapelle had 2705 inhabitants on 1 January 2010.
The Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM) is a private foundation for providing assistance to people and ships in distress along the Dutch coast. The Redding companies were founded in 1824 and are part of the Dutch rescue sector. The reason was a shipping disaster off the coast of Huisduinen in October of that year in which three castaways and six rescuers lost their lives.
The KNRM mainly supports gifts from donors, legacies, sponsoring, subsidies and the deployment of more than 1,300 voluntary crews and employees. Lifeboats have been built since 1824 thanks to generous donations. The names of the lifeboats therefore always have a relationship with the donor or testator. She receives on average 10 million euros through her own fundraising and 4 million euros from inheritances. The KNRM also receives a small subsidy from the state and from Europe. Volunteers from the KNRM are available 24 hours a day to carry out search-and-rescue and other relief tasks on the water on behalf of the Coast Guard.
