About the artwork

The 1918 artwork "Mytologická scéna" by Július Éder shows a dramatic and romantic interpretation of a mythological story. The composition features several figures in a landscape with mountains and water, evoking an atmosphere of mystery and magic. The figures seem to be involved in an intense and emotional scene. Éder uses detailed brushstrokes and a rich colour palette to bring the human forms and natural surroundings to life. The light and shadow works add to the depth and drama of the work.

A female centaur (half horse) runs away with her human torso including topless breasts depicted on a galloping horse's body. Behind her fiercely reacting men also stand naked on the action scene.

This artwork exemplifies Éder's ability to depict mythological and historical themes'with a strong emphasis on emotional impact and aesthetic value.

Július Éder (also known as Gyula Éder) was born on 25 December 1875 in Košice, Slovakia, and died on 30 September 1945 in Pešť, Slovakia. He won the Marcell Nemes Prize in 1911 for his contributions to art.
