About the artwork

The Jaguar E-Type from 1960, the first British sports car. The Jaguar E-type was introduced in 1960 and built for the British road. Designed by the firm of Wimpeck and Coster-Wallace, the Jaguar E-type meant to be a fast road car that could also be driven as a sports car. A lot of research went into this type as it was an essential part of the British motor industry at that time.

The Jaguar E-type was one of the first vehicles to use the new lightweight aluminum design, which was introduced in other types of cars such as the Mercury Grand Marquis and Austin Martin. The Jaguar E-type was also one of the very first cars to use the new 'Quaday' rotary exhaust. The Quaday rotary exhaust has been used since 1960 and is well known for its excellent efficiency. This, along with the new lightweight aluminum bodywork, meant that the E-type was not only the first sports car to use this new design but also one of the best sports cars at the time.

One of the most important features of the Jaguar E-type was its wide track, which was fifty-eight inches long. This meant that this car had the ability to corner very quickly, something that was essential on British roads at the time. These type also featured the first air-cooled engine in a car, which meant that this vehicle had the potential to be very fast. All of these new design features meant that this car had a clear edge over other cars when it came to design and the first British sports car.
