Sveti Stefan is an island off the coast of Montenegro. It is located about 6 km south of the city of Budva. The island is 12,400 m2 and forms in its entirety a holiday resort, complete with casino. This is why it is also called the Adriatic Monaco. It is connected to the mainland by a dam. The hotel has had a number of famous guests such as, Claudia Schiffer, Sylvester Stallone and Sophia Loren. Sveti Stefan is first mentioned as a fortress in 1442. Around the 15th century, a fishing village of the same name came into being on the island. In the fifties and sixties the village was converted into a hotel resort. In 1992 the legendary chess game between Boris Spasski and Bobby Fischer took place here.
