PasargadaePasargadae is an archaeological site in Iran. The city is located about 87 kilometers northeast of the historic city of Persepolis. It was the first capital of the Achaemenid (early Persian Empire). The city was built by Cyrus II and remained the capital until Cambyses II named Susa his capital. The empire of Cyrus stretched from the Mediterranean to Central Asia and India and was probably the first empire of that size. The architecture of the city reflects the variety of cultures that lived in the empire.
