This photo was taken after sunset in September 2013 at the windmills of Kinderdijk in the Netherlands during a week that the windmills were illuminated.
The Kinderdijk windmill area is situated in the Alblasserwaard, close to cities like Rotterdam and Dordrecht. Since 1997 the mill area has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The function of the mill is to pump the water after which it can flow through the locks at Elshout in the Lek to a higher bosom. This is to avoid flooding and subsidence.
This photo was taken using a tripod and remote. The shutter speed used is 15 seconds and the used aperture f14.
