In the hushed floodplain, nature paints a winter symphony. Reed plumes stand like slender brushstrokes in the calm water, enveloped by the cold breath of January. Their reflection in the calm water adds an extra dimension to this hushed spectacle, like a poetic reflection of nature's fragile splendour.
High water has temporarily transformed the landscape as frost leaves its mark. The reed plumes bend with the winter breeze. The water bears silent testimony to the recent freeze, during which nature is taking a breather. Although the thaw has not yet fully set in, this scene reflects a serene calm.
I love it when nature shots form an almost abstract image, which is the case here.
The contrast between the hardness of the ice and stems and the soft plumes of reed create a nice balance in the shot.
The floodplains of the Lek near Culemborg are almost my backyard, so I often walk here. The combination of high water and frost is not very common, so this is an image you don't see very often.
