Ice sculptures on the Afsluitdijk: a winter sunrise by Fotografiecor .nl

This impressive photograph captures a spectacular winter scene from the monument on the Afsluitdijk. The extreme frost and strong winds have transformed the coastline and jetties into a surreal polar landscape, with nature having sculpted monumental ice formations. At sunrise, the sky takes on beautiful shades of pink, orange and pastel colours, which are intensely reflected on the endless ice floes of the frozen IJsselmeer. The composition utilises the clean lines of the monument in the foreground to create depth within the vast, frozen delta.

As a photographer in this region, my passion is to capture the power of the Dutch elements. This image on the Afsluitdijk marks a rare moment of extreme cold, during which our familiar coastline is temporarily transformed into an Arctic landscape. It is an ode to the raw beauty of the IJsselmeer during the harshest days of winter.

Thanks to its dramatic composition and colour palette, this piece is a striking focal point for modern or industrial interiors. The sharp contrasts of the ice are shown to their best advantage on high-quality materials such as brushed aluminium or acrylic glass.

Bring this unique and tranquil moment of the Dutch winter into your home and bring the impressive power of the Afsluitdijk to your own walls.
