I took this photo on a misty morning during a hike on the Augstmatthorn. It had been raining and the hike was slippery and steep, and because of the fog we couldn't see a thing. But once at the summit, this beautiful ibex loomed in the mist, an adult male keeping a close eye on his herd from his seat. This made up for everything and I was able to take these beautiful photos. In retrospect, I am happy with the fog, it gives the photo something minimalist and painting-like. Much nicer than a bright green and blue background. This makes this work suitable for any interior, whether framed or on photo wallpaper.
An icon of the Swiss Alps, the ibex is an impressive mountain animal known for its majestic curved horns and extraordinary climbing skills. Ibex are well represented in Switzerland, with a population of thousands of animals scattered throughout the Alpine region. One of the most famous herds lives on the Augstmatthorn, a mountain in the Bernese Alps that overlooks Lake Brienz.
This herd on the Augstmatthorn attracts many nature lovers and photographers because of its spectacular setting and the unique opportunity to observe ibexes in their natural habitat. The steep, rocky slopes of the mountain provide an ideal habitat for these animals, which move across the rugged terrain with ease. They are particularly visible in spring and summer as they graze high above the tree line.
