Hands give me an impression of someone. They seem to say something about someone's character. Like an intimate glimpse into someone's being that cannot be hidden.
I felt the urge to paint them and a special reason for that was the feeling this pose of hands conveys. Wanting to keep something vulnerable safe. Protect it from the world outside. With that, this painting represents for me the feeling I had towards one of my beloved kitties when she was in her last stage of life. She was completely dependent on me to make choices for her. To keep her safe. To get her through that final phase as best I could. Even when that meant the best thing for her was to let her go.
Love and wanting to protect. Universal feelings that many people will recognise themselves in, whether towards humans or animals. A universal hand gesture too. I hope it can mean something to you too.
