The Fanal forest on the Portuguese island of Madeira. A forest consisting of bay trees. But of a different species of laurel than the leaves we add to our food. Some of the trees are ancient and they thrive in the often humid conditions on this part of the island.
This tree has a huge trunk. I put my photo camera all the way down to show off the trunk better. The sun shines through the canopy and gives a beautiful light. This beautifully highlights the mosses and small ferns growing on the trunk.
