Hraunfossar, in western Iceland, is a series of waterfalls formed by water flowing across a width of about 900 metres from the Hallmundarhraun into the Hvita River (the white river). The Hallmundarhraun is a lava field that was the result of an eruption of one of the volcanoes that lie beneath the Langjökull glacier.
The name comes from the Icelandic word for lava (hraun) and the word for waterfalls (fossar).
