Ameland's horse-drawn lifeboat, an icon! The launching of the lifeboat is done with the help of horses. four horses on either side of the boat pull the undercarriage with the boat into the water after which the boat is launched. After this, the undercarriage is pulled out of the sea. This used to be how the lifeboat was launched. Nowadays it is done several times a year for tourists.
This picture was taken with a demonstration on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Royal Dutch Rescue Society the KNRM.
