The term horse and carriage originates from the time when, in addition to an increasing number of motorised vehicles, many wagons and carts with traction were used in traffic. When riding in a single harness, the horse walks between the harness or lamina, which consists of two forward-projecting beams. The wagon or carriage is equipped with an equaliser (crank), to which the leads are attached. The part of the harness with which a horse pulls may be a harness or hammer with wood, but also a breastplate made entirely of leather. In Eastern Europe, tightening methods still occur where a single horse walks alongside a drawbar. Carl Fahringer (Wiener Neustadt, 25 December 1874 - Vienna, 4 February 1952) was an Austrian painter, illustrator and academic lecturer.
