This work shows the view of the colossal Hooglandse Church from the Hooglandse Kerkgracht in Leiden. A small front garden can be seen in the left foreground in which a wooden bench and flower pots have been placed. The tree in the middle still has bare branches because it is only mid-March 2022. The sun is shining and casting long shadows along the tree. This work can be ordered in both color and black and white.
About the city of Leiden: Leiden is an old city with a lot of history. The undisputed oldest part is the Burcht which dates from 1150. Probably the castle is much older and possibly there was a defensive structure as early as around 450 AD. The Old Rhine River flows through Leiden and discharges further on into the sea. Thanks to the cloth industry, Leiden was one of the largest cities in the Northern Netherlands from the late Middle Ages until the 17th century. Leiden was also the site of the first protestant church, the Marekerk with its round dome.
