The Groote Kerk in Maassluis was built from 1629 to 1639. The church stands on The church stands on Kerkeiland, where half a century earlier an entrenchment had been erected for protection against Spanish troops. However, the population was tired of the Eighty Years' War and, years before the end of the war, demolished the entrenchment. The photo has been edited to make it look old. The photo was taken during the maritime event on 17-05-2014 of Experience 400 Years of Maassluis. 2014 marks the city's 400th anniversary and this will be celebrated throughout the year with various festivities.
