The Netherlands, Alkmaar - The Waag
The Waag in Alkmaar is a building on the Waagplein that has been used as a chapel and dare. The Dutch Cheese Museum and the Tourist Office are now housed in the building. The building has a tower with famous riders and a beautiful carillon. The building was designated a national monument in 1969. The cheese market is held on Waagplein in the summer.
Alkmaar has a historic centre with 399 national monuments and 700 municipal monuments.[2] The city is known as "the cheese city". From the beginning of April to the end of September, a traditional cheese market is held every week.
