The High Fens. The sun shone low under the threatening clouds and coloured the dry grass golden yellow. The three green pines stand out nicely against the grey clouds. The High Fens are part of the High Fens Eifel Nature Park. The High Fens are located on a plateau, mostly in the Ardennes and to a lesser extent in the Eifel. It is located in Wallonia in eastern Belgium, in the province of Liège, and in a part of neighboring Germany. The property covers approximately 4500 ha. This picture was taken in the peat area near Baraque Michel. The Baraque Michel is the name of an inn and the surrounding moorland in the Belgian Ardennes. It is a cross-country skiing area and at 674 m above sea level it is one of the highest peaks in Belgium. Before the First World War it was a border point with Prussia and Germany and the highest peak in Belgium.
