I cam across this hidden doorway to an alley in Citta della Pieve, Umbria, Italy. I only realised the alley existed because the door within a door was open. If it had been shut, I would have admired the door anyway as it was so striking, but without realising that there was more behind it. Looking through the open door, I could see a courtyard and a metal gate. Through the gate was the entrance to some apartments. What caught my eye originally was how beautifully decorated the doorway was, with lots of traditional terracotta pots and and plants. In towns like Citta della Pieve, many inhabitants do not have gardens so they use the plants in pots at the entrances to their homes. Citta della Pieve is a firm favourite on the tourist trail, with its quirky shops and walled town with beautiful old buildings and many hidden alleyways. This is photo art. I reworked my own photograph using an impressionist style which I think rather suits the ruggedness of the door and brickwork. Don't you?
