Maassluis: Urban Layers
In this enchanting evening view of Maassluis, the soul of a historic port city comes alive. At the centre lies tugboat the Furie, an icon of pride and tradition, silently anchored in the soft evening light. In the background, the characteristic drawbridge and the impressive Grote Kerk on Schanseiland stand out, recognisable silhouettes that make the city's rich history visible in the present.
The sky above the harbour is a picturesque palette of deep blue, pink and purple, captured at just the right moment of dusk. The use of a tripod allowed me to shoot with a small aperture (f/22) and long shutter speed, at a low ISO (100). This keeps the image razor-sharp and noise-free, with a soft glow that makes the lights dance in the water.
This photo is more than a #havenview; it is a tribute to Dutch charm, to the cityscape of a place where past and present are layered on top of each other - urban layers that together form the character of Maassluis.
Whether you love nostalgia, architectural photography, or are simply touched by an atmospheric moment in a typical Dutch port town, this image will capture your imagination. Be transported to an evening by the water, where history still breathes in every stone and reflection.
