Castle Haut-Kœnigsbourg is an impressive medieval castle located in Alsace, France. Built in the 12th century, the castle is located on a hilltop about 750 metres above sea level in the Vosges Mountains, near the village of Orschwiller. The castle offers stunning views over the Rhine plain, the Black Forest and, on a clear day, even to the Alps. In the Middle Ages, the Hohkönigsburg formed the centre of the seigniory of Koenigsbourg, to which the village of Orschwiller also belonged.
Anno 2021, the castle is considered one of the best preserved castles and is the only French Monument national located in Alsace. Its impressive bastion, keep, and Logis Seigneurial as well as the panoramic view into the Rhine valley and the view of nearby ruins of other castles (such as Ortenbourg) have made the castle a popular tourist attraction.
