About ‘Hans Memeling. The martyrdom’
Hans Memling. Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian Hans Memling (1430-1494) tried to depict figures and groups in a realistic setting and sought balance and symmetry in his forms. He thus presented a serene image of the world and paradise, where saints and people live together in harmony. He thus expressed a mystical ideal in his paintings, although it can be judged that they appear slightly more static than those of his predecessors.
