Handelskade in Willemstad Panorama #1 by Edwin Mooijaart

The Handelskade in Willemstad is one of the most colourful waterfronts in the world and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The cheerfully painted colonial facades — each building in a different shade of yellow, pink, orange or turquoise — together form a skyline found nowhere else on earth. This shot was taken from the north side of the Queen Emma Bridge, about an hour before sunset. Using an ND filter allowed me to apply a long exposure in the middle of the day, turning the water of Sint Annabaai mirror-smooth and letting the clouds drift softly across the sky. It gives the image a calm, almost dreamlike quality — a beautiful contrast to the vibrant colours of the facades. On the left, a classic sailing vessel is moored along the quay — a nod to the rich trading history of this island. Curaçao was for centuries an important hub in Caribbean trade, and the Handelskade is its finest reminder. This work instantly brings colour and joy to any room. The wide panorama format works beautifully above a sofa or along a long wall. Ideal for lovers of travel, colour and architecture with a story.
