Beautiful portrait from the 19th century of a woman looking at herself in the mirror while standing in a black dress with a red flower. Gustave Leonard de Jonghe (Kortrijk, 4 February 1829 - Antwerp, 28 January 1893) was a Flemish painter, best known for his portraits of women. De Jonghe's early work consisted mainly of historical and religious genre works, but under the influence of Alfred Stevens, he concentrated mainly on portraiture during the 1850s. He mainly painted upper-class women in luxurious settings, with great attention to fashionable clothing, always in an aesthetic-realist style. Influences can be recognised from Japonism and Orientalism.
