Gustav Klimt, Urban Collage | study: The Virgin – drawing and mixed media In white lines, a drawing by Klimt is visible, originally dating from 1911/1912. It shows a nude woman lying down, with her breasts covered under a blanket, but with her legs wide open. For this artwork, I used the work by Gustav Klimt: Zurückgelehnter weiblicher Halbakt, Studie zu “Die Jungfrau”, inventory number 101455, made available by Wien Museum: https://sammlung.wienmuseum.at/objekt/1484-zurueckgelehnter-weiblicher-halbakt/ This mixed-media artwork is a contemporary interpretation of a historical study by Gustav Klimt. The original drawing remains visible in fine white lines, but is incorporated into a layered composition of soft colour fields, textures and abstract shapes. This creates an intriguing contrast between classical figure study and modern collage art. The reclining woman is not rendered realistically, but appears as a fragment, almost like a memory or an imprint. The white line drawing seems to float through the layers underneath. The combination of pink, dusty pink, warm beige, grey, copper, brown and soft blue tones gives the work a weathered, poetic appearance. The image feels intimate and vulnerable, but also powerful and contemporary. Where Klimt often explored human posture, sensuality and vulnerability in his studies, this drawing is given a new context here. By adding urban collage elements, painterly structures and abstract background layers, the work feels both historical and modern. It is not a literal reproduction, but a free artistic interpretation in which the original linework is combined with a contemporary visual language. The open posture of the woman, the soft contours and the layered background give the artwork a sensual, dreamy and slightly mysterious atmosphere. At the same time, the image remains refined and understated through the transparent lines and soft use of colour. The collage-like composition means there is always something new to discover: a line, a colour field, a texture, a hidden detail. Gustav Klimt, Urban Collage | study: The Virgin fits beautifully in an interior where art, character and atmosphere are important. Think of a modern living room, a stylish bedroom, a creative studio, a hotel-chic interior or an eclectic space with warm materials. The work combines beautifully with wood, linen, bouclé, brass, dark glass, natural stone and soft earth tones. For lovers of Gustav Klimt, Jugendstil, Egon Schiele, art history, figurative art, line drawings, female forms, sensuality, eroticism, sex, mixed media & modern collage, this is a distinctive artwork. It brings a classical art-historical source together with a contemporary, urban and poetic appearance.
