City view of coastal town in Flanders in Belgium. Guillaume (Willem) Vogels (Brussels, 9 June 1836 - Ixelles, 9 January 1896) was a Brussels painter and watercolourist. A hinge between realistic landscape painting and an impressionist rendering of the play of light, he was introduced to easel painting while studying at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1883, Vogels was involved in the founding of Les XX. He also became a member of the Belgian artists' association Les Hydrophiles, painting many pure landscapes, cityscapes and suburban views (often in bad weather). He rarely dated his works.
