The slightly sloping street was constructed in the 14th century on the filled-in canal. Groete Grach forms the separation between the city centre neighbourhoods of Binnenstad and Statenkwartier. It is a mixed shopping street, on which a large number of monumental houses and some monasteries, city palaces and school complexes are located.
