Duo Portrait of the Grévy zebra, the largest and most endangered zebra species.
The Grévy zebra is still found in southern Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. The number of zebras living in the wild has halved over the last century. This is mainly due to drought and insufficient watering places. Nowadays things are slightly better and the number of Grévy zebras is estimated to be just under three thousand. The Grévy zebra is named after Jules Grévy, the president of France who received the first specimen imported into Europe as a gift from the king of Ethiopia in the late 1800s.
