Maritime Greenwich
The ensemble of buildings in Greenwich - a suburb of London - and the park in which they are situated symbolise 17th- and 18th-century English artistic and scientific achievements. The Queen's House (built by Inigo Jones) was the first Palladian building in England. The complex, which until recently was the Royal Naval College, was designed by Christopher Wren. The park was laid out based on an original design by André le Nôtre and contains the Old Royal Observatory, which today is the basis for measuring time and length around the world.
