Graslei Ghent, Blue Hour and Illuminated Facades

by Daan Duvillier | Atmospheric cityscape & landscape prints

In this architectural photograph of the Graslei in Ghent, the lights come on during the blue hour while dark clouds hang above the historic facades. The warm light from the windows and the terraces contrasts with the cool, blue-grey sky and gives Ghent's quays an intimate mood.

You look across the water from the Korenlei to the opposite bank. Red flowers stand in the foreground, and behind them the Leie lies calm and green, tinted by a thin layer of duckweed. A glass tour boat and a few smaller boats are moored along the quay. Along the waterfront stand the guild houses with their stepped gables in brick and natural stone, with on the right a facade with a clock tower and pointed spire. The windows are lit, and beneath the black parasols on the terraces the crowd sits in a warm glow.

This urban photograph of Ghent is an atmospheric eye-catcher for a living room, office, hotel or reception. The warm light against the cool sky works well in interiors with dark or neutral tones. For anyone who knows Ghent, it is a recognizable view of the Graslei. For lovers of Belgian cities, architecture and evening photography, it is a piece of wall art with character.
